Storm2 and Storm compatibility mode ironically incompatible

It turns out that Storm2 and Storm compatibility mode is ironically incompatible with many, if not most, of the apps for which RIM created it.

To run our apps on a Storm2 or Storm you will need to disable compatibility mode if it is enabled. Compatibility mode is enabled for an app if when you run it there is a blue border around its main window, the virtual keyboard won’t go away and landscape mode does not work.

We do try to disable compatibility mode at app installation, but unfortunately it doesn’t always work due to OS bugs and there are specific cases where it is impossible to do so, such as when installing using Desktop Manager.

To manually disable compatibility mode:

  • Go to the Options/Applications (OS 5 or higher) or Options/Advanced Options/Applications (OS 4.7) screen
  • In the list of apps select/highlight the app by touching its name
  • Press the Menu key (i.e. the BlackBerry logo key) and select Disable compatibility mode. If the Disable compatibility mode menu item is not available, but Enable compatibility mode is available instead then do not select it, just skip to the next step.
  • Restart the app
  • If after restarting the app compatibility mode is still enabled then perform a reset by pulling your BlackBerry battery

If after performing all of the above compatibility mode is still enabled then contact support and we’ll do our best to help.

Launching Applications using Hotkeys on QWERTY keyboard Smartphones

All our applications support hotkeys so you can easily launch them using a single keypress from your BlackBerry Home screen. Many applications from RIM and others also support this. Unfortunately, by default, application launching via hotkeys is not enabled. To enable it:

BlackBerry Storm OS 4.7 Date/Time Field Bug

Due to a bug in BlackBerry OS 4.7 on the Storm you cannot edit hh:mm:ss formatted date/time fields, such as the BizTrackIt time record In and Out fields and the GoTimeIt Countdown Timer Countdown/Reset Time field, using the normal touch interface.

You can workaround this bug as follows:

  • To edit the :ss (seconds) field component use the virtual keyboard
  • To edit the hh:mm field components, hide the virtual keyboard if shown and use the normal touch interface

More information specific to GoTimeIt (Countdown Timer Mode)

If your BlackBerry is configured for 12 hour format and you don’t want to change it to 24 hour format (see the Time Format field value on the Options, Date/Time screen) then you will also need to translate times into 24 hour format when editing the hh:mm time field components using the touch interface. For example, you will need to specify 12:30 AM if you want a Countdown/Reset Time value of 30 minutes (hh:mm of 00:30), 1:30 AM for 1 hour and 30 minutes (hh:mm of 01:30), 12:30 PM for 12 hours and 30 minutes (hh:mm of 12:30) and 1:30 PM for 13 hours and 30 minutes (hh:mm of 13:30).

Note This bug was reported to RIM and has been fixed in OS 5.

How to upgrade to the latest product release

  1. Review Release Notes - review the release notes published on this site to see What’s New in the release.
  1. Perform a complete backup - prior to upgrading any software on your BlackBerry you MUST perform a complete backup just in case disaster strikes. You can almost be sure that if you don’t perform a backup disaster will strike and if you do then it won’t, so DO NOT skip this step.

The article “Backing up and restoring your BizTrackIt data” contains step-by-step instructions on how to perform a complete backup and restore it if needed (as well as information on performing a selective backup of BizTrackIt which you can ignore for our purposes).

  1. Install over existing version - install the latest version of our product over your current version. Don’t worry, you won’t lose your data, but in case you do you have the backup you created in step 2, right? Do not uninstall prior to upgrading or you will lose your data and need to restore it from your backup.

The over-the-air installation links corresponding to the latest versions of our products are available at: http://www.shrunkenhead.biz/downloads.html.

For installation instructions see http://www.shrunkenhead.biz/installation.html.

  1. Reset your BlackBerry - if at the end of the installation process you are asked for permission to reset your BlackBerry immediately or defer it until later, go ahead and give permission to reset immediately. If you don’t then you’ll be using the old version of the product until you reset and the only way to reset, other than giving permission when you are asked (and you may not be asked again), is to pull and re-insert the battery - cycling the power to your BlackBerry is not sufficient.
  1. Provide feedback - Try out the new version and email us your feedback to let us know what you think. Finally don’t forget to recommend our products to others - referrals are important to our success.

GoTimeIt 1.3.4 Released

Added support for the following keyboard shortcuts:

Key (function)
Q (Start/Stop)
Backspace/Del (Reset)
L (Lap)
A (Toggle between Countdown and Elapsed modes)

Notes:
1) The shortcuts only work on the GoTimeIt screen.
2) The shortcuts are the same for both SureType and QWERTY BlackBerry models.
3) Each shortcut is listed next to the appropriate GoTimeIt menu item to help you remember it. However the shortcut does not work when the menu is displayed.

Example:
Run GoTimeIt and press the Q key to start the stop watch. While the stop watch is running press the Q key to stop it.

GoTimeIt 1.3.2 Released

Over-The-Air Install

As of this release only BlackBerry OS 4.0 or higher is supported.

New Features:

  • Color icon
  • Tone alarm type on devices that do not support a buzzer, but do support MIDI (e.g. 7100, 8700)

Bug Fixes:

  • If the handheld was powered off while the timer was running and then powered on a few minutes later you would get a message queue overflow error and the OS would kill the application.
